I started in the wholesale business by accident, really!
Although I’ve been CEO and Marketing VP of Internet Companies I achieved the top of the corporate ladder at age 27. Yes, by 27 I was CEO of a technology company. Yes, I was happy and yes, I was making a lot of money in salary but I worked long hours and wanted to keep climbing. The problem is there was nowhere else to climb in the corporate world. I had made it to the top!
You see for me, just like for most people, money is very important, but it is not the “most important”. Health, love, and relationships are much more important. Time is also important, time to live, time to spend with your family and friends, time to enjoy life, and health.
Time is the one thing I did not have. I had money, work, “success”, but not time.
In my quest to keep climbing the success ladder as well as looking for more free time I decided that I wanted my own business. And because I was impatient (I’m a bit more patient now, but just a bit) I decided to buy a business instead of starting one.
So now I’m looking for businesses. Not a particular business, not a technology business, not a wholesale business, any business. I’m talking to business brokers, looking in the newspaper and on the internet, always looking and searching.
Finally after talking and searching for a year, looking over about 50 businesses I decided to buy a wholesale business. This was an operation that sold to supermarkets, convenience stores, gas stations, to distributors, other retailers, and online. It sold tools, novelties, apparel, sunglasses, jewelry, hats, electronics, car accessories, health and beauty items, toys, gifts, cookware and everything under the sun.
So I purchased the business and dove into the wonderful world of wholesale by accident!
Now let me give you my “disclaimer”. I had experience with businesses, I had experience with sales and I was already a Marketing Guru. I applied all my marketing techniques to this business and made it a raving success. So much so that soon after I was consulting and teaching other businesses how to be successful in the Wholesale World.
I’ve worked with small businesses as well as large corporate public companies with up to 4,000 employees. I’ve worked on marketing strategy, on finding the best products, helped them with their pricing, operations and accounting.
After consulting for a few years I started writing articles about my experiences on what to do, what to avoid, how to sell more and how to market products. Then something that I did not expect happened, I started getting many emails from people looking for information. “What do I do? How do I start? The problem is that now I could not answer them, I was too busy and there were just too many questions. So I had a brilliant plan. I would ask the person with the most questions to interview me live, and I would record the interview and put it in an audio format easy to download by anyone.
